Itโs a valid question, especially since Iโve already covered structuring blog posts. Blogging is competitive, even with friends. Caroline Takeda was my mentor for the longest time, but I still check her Google rankings regularly. I outrank her in some areas, and she outranks me in others. Understanding what works is important. Youโll succeed more if you engage your audience. In general, a blog post should never be random thoughts thrown together.
While they may not be educational, even my entertainment posts have a story behind them. Straightaway I look at what I want the underlying story to be, what I want my CTA to be and how to get there.

Firstly, a good headline doesnโt need to beg for clicks. In truth, a strong headline grabs attention with words that resonate with readers. Itโs concise yet informative, relatable yet intriguing.

Positive sentiment words like โamazing,โ โbest,โ or โsuccessfulโ bring curiosity. Conversely, negative sentiment words like โworst,โ โmistakes,โ or โfailโ can make people concerned. Emotions drive actions, and when your headline makes readers feel something, they are more likely to click to satisfy their curiosity or address their concerns.
Thirdly, it should contain a power word. Power words are compelling and persuasive. They add an element of excitement and urgency to your headlines. Words like โultimate,โ โproven,โ โguaranteed,โ or โsecretโ can make your content sound more authoritative and irresistible. These words suggest that the content holds value which makes it hard for readers to ignore.
Lastly, where possible, a number. Including numbers in your headlines offers specificity and clarity. Readers know exactly what to expect, which can make the content seem more manageable and digestible. I tend to use the year more than a specific number of items and I update this every year. Almost all of my guides have the year in the post title.

It will give you a very detailed analysis of your site performance.
However, plugin updates can often disrupt these scores. Recently, after updating nine plugins, my perfect scores dropped, leaving only two categories at 100 and the others in the high 80s.
This again, is one other aspect of maintaining a blog that you have to keep on top of.

While basic guides are useful, replicating everyone elseโs methods wonโt set you apart. To outshine competitors, you have to innovate and find what works specifically for you.
