Real life has had a firm grip on me for the past two weeks, my time to do anything in-world has been so limited that I started to forget what everyone looked like. But it was time to write something at least, so I figured why not put out a guide for people who are unsure about how to join the world. Second Life is a virtual world that has been around since 2003. It’s a place where you can create your own avatar and interact with other people in a completely different setting. It’s also a social platform that enables you to chat, shop, and participate in events. That’s the basics but let’s look at it a bit more.

Setting up your Second Life account

First, you need to head on over to SecondLife.com and sign up for the adventure. You’ll create an avatar, pick a username that’s got some flair, and let them know a little about yourself.

Once you’ve cruised through registration, you’ll be all set to dive into the Second Life viewer although I would highly recommend using Firestorm instead.

That’s your ticket to the virtual world where we all hang out. Make sure you get the hang of the interface and controls, you don’t want to miss any of the fun, right? Once you’re set up with an account then you’re ready to jump into the world and even come and drunk with me and Lumi.
